In recent undercover recordings by the Centre for Climate Reporting, Project 2025 co-author Russell Vought openly discusses his close connections with the Trump campaign and his role in delivering the plans crafted by Project 2025 and the Heritage Foundation, including a desire to renew Christian Nationalism.
According to transcripts from the recordings, Vought reveals that Project 2025 has developed “about 350 different documents” including regulations and draft executive orders, all meticulously prepared for the next administration. These plans, Vought notes, are being kept under “very, very close hold” from public scrutiny.
Openly Promoting Christian Nationalism
“President Trump will want to spend zero time thinking about what a transition will look like. It’s not how he thinks,” Vought explains. “We create battle plans and then we start to implement them ourselves.”
As the president of the Center for Renewing America, Vought articulates his vision for the nation.
“I want to make sure that we can declare, ‘We’re a Christian nation,’” said Vought. “It’s time to rehabilitate Christian nationalism and embrace our nation’s Judeo-Christian worldview.”
What is Christian Nationalism?
Christian nationalism is a political and cultural ideology that seeks to merge Christian values and principles with national governance and identity, arguing that the nation’s laws and institutions should be grounded in Christian moral values. Proponents of Christian nationalism advocate for laws, policies, and societal norms that reflect their interpretation of Christian teachings, which can influence everything from legislation to education. However, true Christians often speak out against Christian Nationalism, emphasizing that it threatens the faithful teachings of Christ and places the government in a roll that should be reserved for the Church.
Why We Should Separate Church and State
True Christian faith calls us to live out our values of love, humility, and justice rather than intertwining them with political ideologies. Christian nationalism, which seeks to merge faith with national identity, can often lead to divisiveness and exclusion rather than unity and compassion. Genuine Christianity should focus on embodying the teachings of Christ in our personal lives and communities, rather than advocating for a political vision that may not align with the core principles of our faith.
