White House Staffers Defend Witness Cassidy Hutchinson Against Trump

  • Staffers close to Hutchinson came to her defense when Trump attacked her for sworn testimony.

Cassidy Hutchinson served as a top aide to Mark Meadows, former President Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff.

As she testified under oath about Trump’s actions on January 6th, Trump took to Truth Social to call her a “total phony.”

Trump claimed he barely knew her. This is not true.

Hutchinson Was Close to Trump

Hutchinson worked in the West Wing of the White House, several steps away from the president’s Oval Office. She spoke to high ranking White House officials and members of Congress on a daily basis.

The House January 6th Committee showed a photo of Hutchinson aboard Air Force One with Trump and members of Congress. The Committee also showed a photo of Hutchinson walking on the White House campus with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and other Congressmembers.

The idea that Trump barely knew Hutchinson does not track. In fact, even though Trump repeatedly said he “hardly” knew Hutchinson, he also said he “personally” rejected her request to join his Florida office staff after leaving office.

Staffers Confirm Hutchinson’s High Level Position

Sarah Matthews, former White House Deputy Press Secretary and Trump spokesperson, offered an observation: “Anyone downplaying Cassidy Hutchinson’s role or her access in the West Wing either doesn’t understand how the Trump WH worked or is attempting to discredit her because they’re scared of how damning this testimony is.”

Mick Mulvaney, former White House Chief of Staff under President Trump, reflected on the explosive testimony.

“I know her,” Mulvaney tweeted about Hutchinson. “I don’t think she is lying.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin, former White House Director of Strategic Communications and Assistant to the President, explained on Twitter why to listen to Hutchinson.

“Cassidy Hutchinson is my friend,” Griffin tweeted. “I knew her testimony would be damning. I had no idea it’d be THIS damning. I am so grateful for her courage & integrity. To anyone who would try to impugn her character, I’d be glad to put you in touch w/ @January6thCmte to appear UNDER OATH.”

While Hutchinson answered questions under oath, Trump accused her of lying via posts on Truth Social. But Trump and his allies were not under oath with the penalty of perjury.
